Dennis Raymond Bender passed away June 7, 2021 due to a lengthy illness.  He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Rose (nee Levec) Bender and brother Eddie, all of Avon, and his sister-in-law Jan of Palm Bay, Fla.  Dennis is survived by his former wife Cindy (nee Simms) Bender of Vermilion, son Brian of Lorain, son Mike of Amherst, son Jesse of Avon, son Joe of Vermilion, daughter Shelby of Amherst, son Daniel of Vermilion, granddaughter Natalie of Medina, daughter Halie of Vermilion and grandson Harrison of Vermilion.  Dennis also was a foster parent with Lorain and Huron Counties and was always concerned with those less fortunate, helping whenever he could.  Dennis was a generous man.  Dennis is also survived by a brother Jim of Palm Bay, Fla., and nephews Eddie of Suffolk, Va. and Jimmy of Pittsburgh, Pa.  


Dennis was a heavy machine operator and started out with a single backhoe at a young age.  He worked for his friend and mentor, Bob Miller, until he started his trucking and excavating company located in Avon.  Dennis later became partners with Will Simms whom he referred to as his best friend.  They began larger jobs at Cedar Point, Sandusky and San Antonio, Texas including but not limited to building roller coasters at both locations.


He had many hobbies and interests including camping, jet skiing, boating, traveling, playing rummy and inventing.  He loved weekend cookouts and dinners with his family and loved getting together with his buddies for breakfast or lunch, swapping stories and ideas and the banter between them.  He was a good friend and mentor to many.


The family is planning a Celebration of Life which will be announced at a later date.
