Dorothy G. “Gene” Koker (nee Hovey), age 93 and a longtime resident of Lorain County, passed away Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at Mercy Regional Medical Center surrounded by her loving family.


Gene was born September 26, 1927 in Cleveland to the late Earl and Josephine (nee Black) Hovey and was a 1945 graduate of Clearview High School.  In 1948 Gene married her husband Peter Koker and they were married 49 years at his death in 1997.  Throughout her life Gene was a homemaker who enjoyed reading and planting her indoor and outdoor flower gardens.  Gene and her husband traveled throughout the country in their RV.  On her 75th birthday, fulfilling a lifelong dream, Gene took a ride in a hot air balloon which was an item on her bucket list.   During her life Gene was a member of the Order of the Eastern Stars.


Survivors include her four children; Charlene (David) Knowles of Henrietta Township, Victoria “Vicki” Koker of Amherst, Mark Koker (Donna Sarvas) of Vermilion, Marla Rowe of Florida, 15 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, many great great grandchildren, sisters Earlene Pavlich of Vermilion and Helen Oakford of Garretsville, and brothers Neal Hovey of Rhode Island and Ralph Hovey of Colorado.


She was preceded in death by her husband Peter Koker (1997), her daughter Karen Koker Swiers (2019), and brothers Raymond and Bill Hovey.


Private family burial will take place in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
