Richard K. McElwain 68, passed away on September 28th, 2019 at his sister’s home in Oberlin, OH, where he had been staying during a sudden and short illness. He was surrounded by his family who loved him dearly.

Rick was born on December 4th , 1950, in South Charleston, WV to Patricia and Charles McElwain. He was a 1969 graduate of Keystone High School. Rick retired from ResCare where he was a direct care worker in the group homes.

If there was ever a word to describe Rick McElwain, it was passionate. Everything he did, he did with passion, whether that was loving his family, playing the guitar, or praising God. He was a free spirit, and always managed to bring a smile and a laugh out of everyone that he met. A talented guitar player, Rick played in a multitude of venues with different bands – also writing Christian songs and spreading the Gospel through his music. Rick was a man of faith, having served in the ministry and keeping faith in
Christ. Moreover, Rick was an amazing storyteller. He was the kind of man you would want to sit and talk to for hours. Even in his last days, he was telling stories and cracking jokes, always with a smile. He was an inspiration to those around him and was always one to spread love and positivity to those he encountered.

Rick is survived by Daughters Joy (Keith) McGaha of Burton Ohio, Jodie (Jordan) Harper of Ashtabula, Ohio, Granddaughters Ashley (Jeremy) and Brooke, Grandsons Brady, Christian, Cody, Sean, R.J., and Aiden, Great Granddaughters Hailey and Kaylee, Sisters Terri (Ralph) Russo, Jackie (Bill) Metelsky, and Michelle Ruta, Niece Tracey, Nephews E.J., Brian, Andy, Christian, Sean, and Anthony, Love of his life and Mother of his daughters Dee, and his faithful feline companion “Billy”.
