Diana Lynne Hart, (Owens), age 66, from Oberlin, Ohio passed away at Mercy Hospital on July 23rd after a long illness.  She is survived by her spouse, Rebecca Lynne Hart (Sperry), her sister Debra Rose (Oberlin, Ohio), and brother Maurice Dayton Owens, Jr. (Arlington, Virginia) as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins.  Her father, Maurice Dayton Owens, Sr. and mother, Audrey Jane Owens (Hopewell) preceded her in death. 

Born in Lorain, Ohio, on December 28, 1952, Diana was a graduate of Oberlin High School class of 1971.  She went on to receive a master’s degree in Counseling from Arapaho Community College in New Mexico, and a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership Degree from the University of Phoenix in 2016. 

She was a writer, educator, and cellist with the LCCC Civic Orchestra.  In her early years of teaching, Diana developed the S.C.O.P.E program in Elyria, Ohio for young students with learning and behavioral challenges to help raise self-esteem.  Her diversity classes in New Mexico helped college-aged students learn tolerance and inclusion, and her final assignment was helping doctoral students navigate the dissertation process.

There will be a Celebration of Life Gathering on Sunday, August 4th from 3-5pm at Quick and Delicious Restaurant, 311 S. Main Street, Oberlin to honor her memory.  Positively Debralicious will provide cupcakes.   Should you choose to dine during this time, a full menu will be available at your own cost.
