Anthony "Tony" Aloysius Rieger, age 85 of Elyria, OH, passed away peacefully at home in the early hours of Saturday, March 11, 2023. Tony was born on August 12, 1937. He was preceded in death by his parents, Anna and Anton Rieger and grandson Benjamin Rieger. He is survived by wife Sheila Heather Rieger; siblings Jean Slates and Ronald Rieger (Betsy); children Rhonda Edwards (Raymond Edwards), Antoinette Kruse (Richard Kruse), Douglas Rieger (Kathleen A. Rieger), David Rieger, and Donald Rieger; grandchildren Gabrielle Parker, Jonathan Dombrosky, Trisha Pileski, Alicia Kruse Belsi, Rachel Menge, Brandon Rieger, and Deanna Rieger Gomez; and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, great nieces, nephews, and great nephews. Tony, after serving a short term in the United States Navy, met Sheila. They married on July 4, 1957. They had five children together and also welcomed many foster children into their family. Tony was a painter by trade, as well as a handyman. He brought joy to countless homes and businesses through his expertise. He valued work ethic and craftsmanship. Tony volunteered his time and talents at organizations including the Boy Scouts of America, St. Agnes Catholic Church, and many others. He was also an active member of Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), celebrating his 37 years of sobriety. A faithful man of God, Tony now goes to be in the arms of the Lord. A private showing for the family and close friends will be held on Saturday, March 18, 2023, at Andras Crematory and Funeral Home Alternatives, located at 3900 Broadway Ave., Lorain, OH, 44052. Visitation will be from 1–5 pm with a prayer service led by Reverend Father Robert Franco at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to Alzheimer's Association, 23215 Commerce Park Rd STE 300, Beachwood, OH 44122. Burial will be at a later date.
