IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Carol L.
Kramer
September 26, 1936 – October 16, 2024
Carol L Kramer (nee Eyman), 88, a lifelong resident of Lorain, Ohio, passed away peacefully at home on October 16, 2024, after a lengthy illness, under the care of Mercy Health's New Life Hospice.
Born at St. Joseph Hospital on September 26, 1936, to the late Herbert and Ruth (Dickson) Eyman, Carol graduated from Lorain High School (Class of 1954-B) and married her high school sweetheart, David Kramer, on April 28, 1956.
During Carol's earlier years, she worked as a bookkeeper at Central Bakery, Lorain, a file clerk at Fruehauf Trailer Co., Avon Lake, and nursery school teacher at the First Congregational Church, Lorain. Later in the 70's and early 80's, Carol became a consumer advocate and, together with Joanne Scrivo, wrote "The Hotline" column for The Journal (now The Morning Journal). From then until her formal retirement in 1999, she provided engineer support at Reltec/Emerson Corp. (originally, Lorain Products).
For most of her life, Carol was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ, Lorain, where she served as moderator, liturgist, member of the Adult Choir and Bell Choir, Sunday School teacher, and wedding coordinator. For years, Carol planned and cooked the congregation's holiday meals, as well as the monthly free meals for the Lorain community.
Carol gave generously of her time and talents – you could say she was a "professional volunteer". During and after her years raising children and being employed, she found time to dedicate to others. Carol was a member and past President of the Lorain Downtown Ministries Association and Lorain Community Music Theater. She was a 1989 alumni of Leadership Lorain County and served on the board of the Lorain YWCA, Lorain County Office of Aging (RSVP Volunteer), and the United Way of Greater Lorain County (Central Allocation Chairperson). Carol also devoted her time as a member and volunteer of the Lorain Historical Society, Lorain Senior Center, and Lorain County Rape Crisis (serving as a trained advocate for more than 15 years).
During Lorain's International Festival, you could find Carol serving ice cream at the French booth. She also enjoyed selling raffle tickets at the annual "International Trees and Trains" display at Black River Landing, and manning the "help desk" at Lorain City Hall. In all her free time, Carol loved reading, cooking, planning and attending family events, and traveling – spending years after retirement with Dave, driving their motorhome to visit friends and sites throughout the United States, including hundreds of lighthouses and many National Parks.
In addition to Dave, her husband of 68 years, Carol is survived by her children, James (Mary) Kramer of Lorain, Connie Kramer Ferrer of Lakewood, Thomas (Anne) Kramer of Lorain, and Robert (Julie) Kramer of Lorain; her daughter-in-law Tina Kramer of Round Rock,Texas; her grandchildren, David Kramer, Cory (Lenaia) Kramer, Rachel Ferrer, Eric Ferrer, Christina Ferrer, Jeffrey Kramer, Maria (David) Zgodzinski, Shannon (Chase) Kramer and Sarah Kramer; her great-grandchildren, Julian Garcia, Darien Ferrer, Simon Kramer, Elise Kramer, Delani Harris, Jae Harris, and twins, Tydus and Kyzer Kramer; and her brothers, William (Raymond Beausejour) Eyman of N. Providence, Rhode Island, and Richard Eyman of Gautier, Mississippi.
Carol was preceded in death by her youngest son, William R. Kramer, on January 30, 2012.
Family will receive friends and family Tuesday, October 22, 2024, at Andras Crematory & Funeral Home, 3900 Broadway Ave., Lorain 44052 from 3 p.m. until time of services at 5:30 p.m., officiated by Rev. John Jackson.
