Obituary

James L. Baber, age 62, a resident of Elyria, passed away on Saturday, September 5, 2026. He was born June 29, 1964, in Key West, Florida, to Lawrence and Mary Baber.

James, known to everyone as “Jimmy,” was a lifelong sports fan, music lover, and a man who cherished the people closest to him. A proud graduate of Western Albemarle in Crozet, Virginia, in 1982, Jimmy went on to work as an electrician.

In 1985, Jimmy’s life changed following a motor vehicle accident that left him a quadriplegic—through the years that followed, his mother, Mary, lovingly cared for him for 15 years. Jimmy later spent a few years in a nursing home before meeting the love of his life, Juanita. Together, they began a new chapter, moving into a home in Crozet before eventually moving to Ohio to be closer to Juanita's roots.

Jimmy found joy in many things. He loved to travel, making memories on trips from Maine all the way down to Key West, Florida. He was also an enthusiastic concertgoer and loved attending live music whenever he could.

Sports were another great passion in Jimmy’s life. He was a devoted Washington Redskins fan and a true sports fanatic. Whether it was football or another sport, Jimmy enjoyed following the games and sharing his passion with others.

He is survived by his loving partner of 23 years, Juanita Hardy, his siblings Jeannie (Jim) Marshall, Jack (Carla) Baber and Mary Jane (Dewayne) Johnson; three nieces; three nephews; and three great-nephews, who will carry his memory with them.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Mary (nee Clary) Baber.

Per Jimmy's wishes, there will be no services held.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Andras Crematory & Funeral Home, Lorain.
