Obituary

James Dominick Rowland, affectionately known as "Jimbo" and also by his name Jaime Rematierra, was born on June 25, 1951, in Warren, Ohio, and departed this life on August 26, 2025.

A proud graduate of Warren G. Harding High School in 1969, Jimbo served his country in the United States Navy from 1969 to 1973, where he was stationed aboard the USS Waccamaw AO-109 as a Vietnam-era veteran. His dedication to service was followed by a passion for education; he graduated from The Ohio State University in 1977 with a Bachelor of Arts in Romance Languages, majoring in Spanish. A true Buckeye at heart, he often celebrated with the rallying cry, "Go Bucks!" followed by the spirited "O-H-."

Jimbo's career in international sales spanned nearly five decades, during which he had the privilege of living in Puerto Rico and Spain. His adventurous spirit took him to 88 different countries and territories, enriching his life with diverse cultures and experiences.

Jim enjoyed entertaining people. From his days on the stage with the Kenley Players in Warren, Columbus, and Dayton, Ohio, to playing the guitar, harmonica, and singing, solo or with a band. He also enjoyed his garden with many varieties of tomatoes and peppers, and cooking. His peppers in oil with garlic and parsley were the best. He loved to open a bottle of wine and prepare a meal that was better than you would get in most restaurants.

Jim enjoyed traveling, dancing, playing racquetball, sailing, doing crosswords, writing songs, and writing his autobiography. Jim liked to spend time with his many friends here and around the world.

In addition to his parents, James and Rose (née DeNunzio) Rowland, he is preceded in death by his daughter, Ellen, and his brother Bobby (Cindy).

Survived by his esposa, Amy, his son lan (Lexy), his sisters Sandy (dec. Chuck) and Rosebud (Bob), and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.

James leaves behind a legacy of love for family, friends, and a passion for exploration that inspired those around him. He will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

In lieu of flowers or cards, buy a bottle of good wine, or your beverage of choice, and hoist a glass with your family and friends.

Celebration of Life to be held at a later date.
