John Richard “Rick” Sparks, 69, passed away on August 4, 2026, following a prolonged period of illness and health challenges.

Rick built a career in construction and real estate, working on a variety of projects, builds, and remodeling endeavors. He was active in the local Moose Lodge, where he served as Governor. He enjoyed spending time with friends and traveling to warmer destinations.

He is survived by his wife, Gwen; his former wife, Carolyn Ingram; his children, Rick Sparks, April Sparks (Sean Ellis), Amanda Sparks, Matthew (Kailea) Sparks, Brittany (Lee) Stainbrook, and Seth Hahler; several grandchildren; his father, John Sparks; his brother, Gary (Christy) Sparks; and his niece and nephew, Jacqueline (Matt) Schiavone and Gary (Erin) Sparks.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Audrey Sparks.

Rick’s life was marked by many chapters, challenges, relationships, and experiences. He will be remembered by those whose lives he touched in their own individual ways, as well as by the friends he made throughout his years.

A Memorial Service will be held at Ashland Church of Christ, 1185 Co Rd 1356, Ashland, OH 44805 on Sunday, August 16, 2026, at 4:00 p.m., followed by a prepared meal.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his family’s name to Ashland Church of Christ or Northwestern Ohio Christian Youth Camp.
