IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Johnene “Johni” Lynn
Wressell
November 23, 1968 – October 29, 2025
Johnene "Johni" Lynn (nee Knapp) Wressell, age 56, formerly of Wellington, Ohio, and most recently of Avon Lake, Ohio, passed away on October 29, 2025.
Born on November 23, 1968, in Oberlin, Ohio, Johni was the daughter of Carol Knapp (nee Sorah) and the late Willard Knapp. She is survived by her mother, Carol; her sisters, Traci (David) Knechtges, Madilynn (Luis) Garcia, and Brandilynn (Josue) Garcia; and her grandsons, Wiley Harwood and Bryson Conrady.
Johni devoted much of her life to caring for others. She worked as a home health caregiver and had a heart for helping those in need, especially individuals experiencing homelessness. Johni was a friend to anyone who needed support, always willing to help — even when it meant going without herself. Her generosity and willingness to serve others will be remembered by all who knew her.
Johni had a deep love for ministry and service. She served as a chaplain with the International Fellowship of Chaplains and was actively involved in multiple church communities throughout her life. She helped open and serve at Your Son Our Savior Church in Lorain and Beyond the Walls Church in Elyria. In recent years, she was a dedicated member of Cathedral of Life in North Ridgeville, where she participated in outreach ministries, Ladies of Faith, and Vacation Bible School programs.
Johni's heart for outreach extended into the community. She worked closely with The Alpha House in Oberlin for many years, supporting individuals and families affected by addiction. Whether attending events, assisting with fundraisers, volunteering at banquets, or lending a hand where needed, she poured love and compassion into countless lives. She also catered for many community events throughout Lorain County, always showing up with a servant's heart and joyful spirit.
She was preceded in death by her father, Willard Knapp; her husband, Brett Wressell; her son, James "Wiley" Harwood; and her grandparents Earl and Mary Jane Sorah and Calvin Knapp Sr. and Estella Knapp.
A service will be held at 12:00 PM on November 22, 2025, at Cathedral of Life, North Ridgeville, Ohio.
Sometimes God calls someone home early, not as a punishment, but as mercy — to give them peace and spare them from trials yet unseen.
