Michael Lee Mickey Sr., 79, of Amherst, died Friday, November 24, 2023 unexpectedly at his home.
He was born March 17, 1944, in Connellsville, Pennsylvania. He moved to Ohio, lived in Lorain as a child, and graduated from Lorain Admiral King High School. He was drafted and proudly served in the United States Army during Vietnam. Upon returning home from the army, he made his home in Amherst and became employed by The Ford Motor Company. He retired from the Lorain Assembly plant after 28 years. He enjoyed hunting, reading, and watching television.
Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Lisabeth Mickey (nee Lary); daughter, Tina Mickey of Wellington; son, Michael L. Mickey Jr. (Felicia) of Wakeman; his stepchildren Doug Nickolette of Lagrange, Gino Nickolette of South Amherst and Lisa Steele (Randy) of Polk. He was a loving grandfather to Madison, Anthony and Nevaeh Mickey; Vinny Nickolette of Brunswick; Tony Nickolette of Ft. Myers, Florida; Maria Nickolette of Sheffield; Anya and Brynn Nickolette of Lagrange; Connor and Troy Nickolette of South Amherst; Sarah Moore (Logan) of Amherst and Brooke Weibel (Silas) of Homerville. He was a great grandfather to Austin Nickolette of Ft. Meyers, Florida; Angelo Nickolette of Brunswick; Payton Nickolette of Sheffield and Aavah and Colson Moore of Amherst. He is survived by his siblings Linda Gurule (Alvin) of Idaho Springs, Colorado and Brian (Debra) Mickey of Amherst. He was preceded in death by his parents Clarence and Rosemarie Mickey (nee Haas) who had resided in Amherst, his siblings Roseanne and Gary Mickey and sister, Mary Elaine Luesley.
A memorial mass will be held on Thursday, December 14, 2023, at 11 A.M. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 200 St. Joesph Drive; Amherst, Ohio. Military honors and internment will be at St. Joseph Cemetery following the mass.
