IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Richard Paul
Urban
July 21, 1960 – May 18, 2025
Richard Urban passed away peacefully on May 18, 2025 at UH Elyria Medical Center with his cousin Kathy and dear friend Nancy at his side. When Richard was born in 1960, the doctors gave his mother Grace and his father Chet a dire prognosis. Richard went on to defy the odds, and he led a full and vibrant life. When he was young, he attended Murray Ridge School. After school hours were spent with his loving father going fishing and attending sporting events. Richard became a lifelong sports fanatic. In Special Olympics, he competed in swimming, basketball and volleyball accumulating many gold medals. Family was always precious to Ricky, and he cherished time with his siblings, nieces, and nephews. After his mother and father passed away, he lived with his loving sister Beverly and her partner, Gary Earley. They took Richard to every home football game for Avon Lake for many years. Richard was a die-hard Cleveland Sports fan. He loved to attend Indians games, Monsters games and Cavs games with his cousin, Kathy. When he wasn't there in person, he would watch the games on TV with his sister Bev. He also loved big time wrestling and Nascar racing. In later years, he became an Amherst Comets fan and loved to attend basketball games, especially to see his buddy Jordan playing. He enjoyed fishing with his cousin, Kathy and would brag about how big of a walleye he caught! Richard worked for many years at Murray Ridge's Elyria workshop with his "boss" Nancy Seighman who became his dear friend. The two of them had many fun times together.
Richard was fun-loving and friendly. He enjoyed being helpful and was quick to volunteer for "chores." He never met a person who he didn't call his friend! He spent the last year of his life at Echoing Hills Engram Home where he made new friends and received excellent care. He will be sadly missed by many. He was preceded in death by his father Chester Urban, his mother Grace Urban, sister Barb Tavenier, sister Jennifer Urban, and dear friend Gary Earley. He leaves behind his sister Beverly Urban, brother Wayne Bortner and cousin, Kathy Koury.
There will be a Celebration of Life at Center Church, 1107 Clemens Ave, Elyria, Ohio on June 8 from 3 pm to 6 pm with Pastor James Hill officiating.
