Shirley J. Zatroch (nee Plested) passed away on April 24, 2025.  Born in Waukegan, Illinois in 1935, she was a resident of Lorain, Ohio and Cocoa Beach, Florida.  Shirley graduated from Vermilion High School in 1953, married Steven Zatroch in 1955 and raised their family in Lorain.  In the 1950's and the 1970's, Shirley worked at The Style Center in downtown Lorain, where she developed her impeccable sense of style and often fondly reminisced about dressing the window displays there.  In 1997, she retired after twenty years of employment in the Central Services Department of Lorain County Community College.  After retirement, Shirley and her husband Steve moved to Cocoa Beach Florida, where they became "snow birds" and returned to Lorain each summer.

Shirley loved to golf and in 1969, she was a founding officer of the Lorain County Women's District Golf Association. Over the years, she participated in many golf leagues in both Ohio and Florida, including the Cocoa Beach Ladies Nine Hole Golf Association and the Lakeland Woman's Club of Lorain's Golf League.

Shirley was a caring wife, devoted mother and loving grandmother and great-grandmother.  She created a welcoming and charming home environment for her family and enjoyed interior design, flowers and plants and watching birds, butterflies and deer in her yard.  She didn't love cooking but baked her famous cherry roll, nut roll and coffee cake and especially enjoyed baking with her son, grand-daughter and family during the holidays.  She was a great listener and supporter and was genuinely interested in what was going on in her family and friends lives.  Shirley was very stylish and always had her hair done, make-up on and was ready to go.  She was vivacious and had a lot of spunk and wasn't afraid to tell it like it was. We will miss sharing a glass (or two) of wine with her, her warm loving hugs and her beautiful smile.

Shirley is survived by her three children, Jennifer (Tony) Williams, Michael (Domini) Zatroch and Wendy (Mark) Meincke, her grandchildren, Ethan, Ben, Gina, Sam, her great-grandchildren, Senna, Talas and Beckett.  Shirley was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Steven Zatroch on March 16, 2025, her sisters, Junne Zappa and Janet Wheeler, and her parents, Ross and Janet Plested.

A Celebration of Life will be scheduled at a future date.
