Obituary

Todd Lee Cannon Sr., affectionately known as "Truck" to his family and friends, passed away peacefully on October 9, 2026, at the age of 64.

During his high school years, Todd was an accomplished athlete who excelled in football, basketball, and track. It was on the basketball court that he earned the nickname "Truck" because of his aggressive style of play, determination, and competitive spirit. That same confidence and tenacity extended to the football field and became a defining part of how he approached life. Todd earned seven varsity letters and received All-Conference, All-County, and All-District honors in football.

He was also a starter on the basketball team and, as a senior, went undefeated in the shot put for the track team. Through his dedication, competitive spirit, and athletic achievements, Todd made a lasting mark in sports at Oberlin High School and earned the respect of teammates, coaches, and competitors alike.

A proud United States Navy veteran, Todd served his country with honor from 1980 to 1988. His military service took him to Chicago, Florida, and Puerto Rico, to name a few, before he returned to the place he always considered home, Oberlin, Ohio. Todd carried immense pride in his service, his community, his heritage, and, most importantly, his family.

Todd was a man whose home and heart were always open to others. He found great joy in caring for people and was known throughout the community for his generosity and hospitality. Whether it was a birthday, holiday, anniversary, family gathering, or simply a meal shared among friends, Todd could often be found in the kitchen preparing food for those he loved. His cooking brought people together, and his warmth made everyone feel welcome. He was often surrounded by his closest and dearest friends, including Tad, Peanut, Derrick, Doc, Blake, Eric, and Gilbert. He was a devoted mentor to many nieces and nephews, offering wisdom, encouragement, and guidance as they navigated life's challenges and celebrated successes.

Above all else, Todd cherished his family. His children fondly remember the countless conversations they shared about history, politics, sports, and life itself. They admired his strong sense of justice, valued his wisdom, and will forever treasure the humor and resilience he carried through life's challenges. His love, guidance, and unwavering support will remain with them always.

In his later years, Todd found comfort in nature and enjoyed spending quiet moments outdoors at home, watching birds and wildlife and tending to his garden alongside his lifelong partner. He appreciated the peace and beauty that surrounded him and often found solace and reflection there.

Todd was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Barbara Cannon (née Wall) and David Cannon Sr.; his brother, Dean Cannon; his sister, Brenda Cannon; and his nephew, Rodney Cannon Sr.

Todd is lovingly remembered by the love of his life and devoted partner of twenty-eight years, Patricia Kelly; their children, Alex Cannon, Todd Cannon Jr., and Tucker (Leah) Kelly; his brother, David Cannon; and his sisters, Marian Wright and Margaret Scott.

In accordance with his wishes, Todd will be laid to rest beside his parents at Westwood Cemetery in Oberlin, Ohio. He will receive military honors in recognition of his faithful service to his country.

The burial service will be held at Westwood Cemetery, 455 Morgan Street, Oberlin, Ohio 44074, on November 6, 2026, at 10:00 AM.

Following the service, family and friends are invited to join in celebrating Todd's life at New Russia Township Hall, 46300 Butternut Ridge Road, Oberlin, Ohio 44074, on November 6, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

Though Todd's presence will be deeply missed, his kindness, laughter, generosity, and love will remain forever in the hearts of those fortunate enough to know him.
