IN LOVING MEMORY OF
William "Bill"
Donald Avsec
May 23, 1933 – September 28, 2023
William "Bill" Donald Avsec, 90, passed away on Thursday, September 28, 2023, peacefully at his home in Lorain, Ohio. He was born on May 23, 1933, in Cleveland, Ohio to William and Mary Avsec. Those left to cherish Bill's memory include: his wife of 50 years, Eileen (Szmogya); sister Mary Avsec, Sister of Notre Dame of Chardon; seven children - Michael Avsec of Nashville, TN, Michelle Sladaritz (Steve) of Colorado Springs, CO, William T. Avsec of Ashland, Patricia Lovato (Andy) of La Quinta, CA, Micheline Krause of Lorain, John Krutkiewicz (Jill) of Amherst, Thom Krutkiewicz (Pamela) of Ashland; nephew John Kribbs (Christina) of Andover; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He is reunited in heaven with his parents William and Mary Avsec; first wife Mary Margaret "Peg" (Toth); sister Bernadette "Bernie"; son Baby William; and daughter-in-law Gwen. Bill graduated from Cleveland's Benedictine High School in 1951. Upon graduation, he served in the United States Army during the Korean War. After the military, he worked as a Machinist where he would install printing presses for newspapers, such as The Lorain Journal, The Cleveland Plain Dealer, and several other notable newspapers. Bill later worked as a Millwright for the Ford Motor Company where he proudly completed over 25 years of service. Once Bill retired in 2000, he was able to enjoy his time on fishing trips with his cousin Rudy, horse racetrack trips with his grandchildren, card games with his buddies and keeping up with the family pool they had in their backyard. Bill was the "preacher" of the family. His inspirational phrase to his grandchildren was always, "Be a leader, not a follower" and "listen to your parents". In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Saint Jude's Children's Hospital. Services for Bill will be on Saturday, October 7, 2023, at Saint Peter's Catholic Church in Lorain, Ohio. Visitation will commence at 9 am with mass to follow at 10 am. A private burial will be held at the Calvary Cemetery in Cleveland, Ohio at a later date.
