George R. Silvasy, 81, and a longtime resident of Amherst, passed away after a lingering illness at the Cleveland Clinic Avon Hospital Friday, November 3, 2023.
George was born October 3, 1942 in Lorain to the late George and Virginia (nee Maluski) Szilvasy. He was a graduate of Ft. Knox High School, Kentucky and received a Bachelor of Political Science and History from Western Kentucky University.
George married his wife of 56 years, Jeannette M. (nee Schneider) May 13, 1967. For the past 50 years, they made Amherst their home and raised their sons there. While his children were growing up, George was a coach for CYO basketball at St. Joseph Church, Amherst and also coached Little League in Amherst. George started his working career at the Ohio Turnpike Commission in their maintenance department and the remainder of his 40 years was spent with Lorain County Domestic Relations Court Juvenile Division. He enjoyed golfing, especially with his wife, and was an avid Cleveland sports fan. In retirement, George enjoyed bird watching and feeding birds in his backyard.
Survivors include his wife, Jeannette M. (nee Schneider) Silvasy of Amherst; son, Sean Silvasy of Amherst; granddaughter, Mackenzie (husband Jeff) Bennett of Texas, granddaughter, Bradyn Silvasy of Avon; sister and brother-in-law, Sandra and Ron Varough of Amherst; brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Vickie Szilvasy of Lorain; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents; George was preceded in death by his son, Scott Silvasy (2003); and grandson, Ryan Silvasy (2011).
George requested no services and his family will have a private interment.
