Gerald “Jerry” Thomas Brown, 80, of Lorain, OH, passed away on September 11, 2023, after a brief battle with cancer.
Jerry was born on May 30, 1943 in Buffalo, NY. His family moved to Lorain when he was a teen and he attended and graduated from Lorain High School in 1961.
After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served on active duty for six years as a Communications Technician (CTR2). He sailed on the USNS Private Jose F. Valdez across the equator and around South Africa earning his “Shellback” before his tours in Japan and Winter Harbor, Maine.
After his service in the Navy, he worked at General Electric and Ford Motor Co., where he retired after 30 years.
In his spare time, he could be found on the softball field playing shortstop, in the bowling alley’s of the Saxon Club or Rebman’s or on the golf course with his son, Eric. He also enjoyed making golf clubs and woodworking in his workshop.
Jerry was a member of the VFW, American Legion, and Amvets social clubs.
He is survived by his companion, Jan; daughter, Dana; son, Eric; grandsons Andrew and Aidan; brother, Gordon (Kathy); and many loving nieces, nephews and friends.
He is preceded in death by his father, Albert G. Brown; his mother, Alberta (nee Schmidt); his sister Anita (Robert) McQuate; and his brother, Frederick D. Brown.
There will be no visitation or service. A Celebration of Life will be held at the American Croatian Club, 4846 Oberlin Ave, Lorain on Saturday, September 23, 2023 from 12-3 pm.
